Education in AUSTRALIA
Even though Australia was a British colony, it dominantly differs from UK in terms of education and curriculum. The Primary and Secondary School system in Australia is compulsory for all children aged between 6 and 15 years of age. The students have to take an entrance examination, in order to continue with further studies, especially university education.
Professional and technical education is offered by Tertiary and Further Education (TAFE), and Universities. TAFEoffers courses that finally lead to trade certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas and a few degree courses. The courses offered are varied, and cover vocations such as desk jobs, IT-related jobs, and jobs specific to hospitality industry, and electronics industry.
Universities offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses, which are followed by Ph.D. Unique feature about Australian education is that, locals enjoy free educational benefits, but the international students need to pay the determined fees.
Australia since the beginning has been the favorite of international students seeking to pursue management studies. In Australia there are two private universities and thirty seven public universities that offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
Courses of choice for international students are business administration and economics. And, science, arts, humanities and social science are the next popular choices. Students are allowed to study and work simultaneously. During the term, each student is allowed to work for 24 hours in a week, and can work full time during holidays.
